This was an initial 18-month consulting assignment which the client extended to five years. The two companies that were not initially a part of this engagement asked to be brought into the consulting model due to the success which CompuPros achieved for the company. CompuPros’ consultants had management responsibility for 1600 IT employees located in seven different U.S. cities.

Consulting Responsibilities Filled by CompuPros’ Consultants
  • Senior CIO for all of client’s U. S. companies. Member of client’s Executive Management Board, 1600 staff.

  • CIO for client in a Midwest city, 150 staff.

  • CIO for client in a Midwest city, 175 staff.

  • Senior manager responsibility for all client distributed systems, networks, and desktops, 450 staff.

  • Y2k manager for all client companies, 80 CompuPros staff, 25 client staff, 85 million lines of code.

  • Senior IT manager for client in a southern city. Managed the integration of major acquisition.

  • Other consulting assignments related to systems evaluations, systems integrations, project management, data center consolidations, and network management, etc. CompuPros also supplied many contract programming personnel to the various client companies.

A Summary of Work Done
  • Charged with responsibility for transitioning the client IT support functions from a liability to an asset and to demonstrate to the businesses the business value of IT support. This responsibility involved developing a new culture of results, methodologies, accountabilities, financial responsibility, and strategic planning for the client’s IT operations.

  • Planned and managed the physical centralization of the client’s computer centers into the centralized center. Data centers were merged from seven client businesses and supported from the centralized site.

  • Planned and managed multiple systems’ integrations in conjunction with improving efficiency of operations and as a part of acquisitions.

  • Planned and managed telecommunications networks linking businesses across the country. Recommended and renegotiated voice and data contracts, saving the client millions of dollars.

  • Recommended, planned, and managed the logical centralization and physical decentralization of the client’s IT applications support staff.

  • Reorganized the IT staff to segregate the data center management from the management of desktop services.

  • Recommended, planned and managed the replacement of the OS2 desktop operating system with Windows technologies.

  • Recommended, planned and managed the development of an Internet/Intranet infrastructure to support all of client’s companies centrally.

  • Managed the Y2k project for client. Outsourced to CompuPros the programming changes and testing of 85 million lines of code for client companies.

  • Managed the development of a rigorous Systems Development Methodology for use in Y2k and all other client development projects.

  • Planned and managed the technology aspects of all client acquisitions and divestitures during the five year period.

  • Acquisitions: Three companies.
    Divestitures: Two client divisions.

  • Planned and managed the divestiture of client’s Financial Group systems from the corporate data center and the divestiture of client’s Long Term Care.
